Search & Recovery Diver Course

The PADI Search and Recovery Specialty Course teaches you more about search patterns and navigation.
Along with using a lift bag and learning to tie knots underwater, you’ll learn how to adapt your searches to compensate for current.
You will learn controlled ascents with objects – some large, some heavy.

There is a bit more equipment that you need to take with you.We will use a compass, lift bag, ropes and slates.

You’ll learn to to choose the right search pattern for the conditions.
Different sized objects need different searches and lifting equipment.
We’ll teach you how to plan for this.

The Search and Recovery Specialty Course is 4 dives, so it can be completed in two days.
The course includes a manual and there is a knowledge review at the end.
We teach you about:

  • planning
  • using checklists to reduce mistakes
  • different types of search patterns
  • tying knots underwater
  • using a liftbag to bring objects to the surface
  • adapting searches to compensate for current.
  • problem solving

Who is this course for?

The simple answer is anyone who is an Advanced Open Water diver and is comfortable in the water.

But realistically who might use these skills?

  • Divemasters or Dive Guides
  • People who need to locate or lift objects from the bottom
  • Anyone who dives in low visibility or strong currents
  • Anyone with an interest in recreational searches
