All of our courses start with pool training, and self study at your hotel or before you arrive.  Our Instructors have years of experience and will make sure that your course is safe, fun and thorough.

You will get your own copy of the training e-learning materials  and have use of all equipment that you will need to complete the course. We include a dive computer on all training dives. Once you have completed all the performance requirements you will receive certification as a PADI Open Water Diver. You will then be able to dive safely to a maximum depth of 18 metres. All of our Open Water Courses include an extra fun-dive at the end, where you can take your camera.

Learn to Dive in our training lake and Local Reef

This is a 3-day course with e-learning that you can complete at your hotel.  We have 1 day of pool training to learn all the skills.  On the first day of open water training, you complete your skills in our local training lake.  This removes any issues with seasickness, and provides an easy gentle introduction to diving.  This is our preferred option for children as it gives them a calm sheltered environment for their first Open Water dives.   On the second day we will take you to one of our amazing local reefs.   We include a bonus fun dive.

Learn to Dive on Local Natural and Artificial Reefs

As with the lake course, this is a 3-day course with e-learning that you can complete at your hotel.  We have 1 day of pool training to learn all the skills.  On the first day of open water training, you complete your skills on one of our local reefs, and on the second day we will take you to our amazing artificial reef. We include a bonus fun dive.

Local Dive Sites and Similan Thailand Diving

This also is a 3-day course with e-learning that you can complete at your hotel or before you arrive.  As with the previous course, we will start with the pool, followed by a day practicing skills on one of our local sites which are perfect for training.  Then the second day is on the beautiful Surin/Similan Islands.  We include a bonus fun dive.

Open Water Course FAQs

You need to be at least 10 years old (Junior Open Water), able to swim 200 metres unassisted or 300 metres with mask, fins, and snorkel, and float or tread water for 10 minutes. No prior scuba experience is required. You will complete a PADI medical questionnaire before the course; if any conditions are flagged, a sign-off from a doctor is needed.

The course takes 3 days in total. Day one covers theory and pool skills; days two and three are ocean dives at local Khao Lak sites (or the Similan Islands, depending on your chosen package). Completing the PADI eLearning theory in advance of your arrival allows you to focus more time in the water.

Your four certification dives are completed at local dive sites in the Khao Lak area, or as part of the Similan Islands package if you choose that option. These sites offer excellent visibility and calm conditions ideal for new divers.

Yes. PADI is the world’s largest diver training organisation, and the Open Water Diver card is accepted at dive centres, liveaboards, and resorts in over 180 countries. There is no expiry date — once certified, you are certified for life, though a refresher is recommended after a long break from diving.

The PADI Open Water certification allows you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 metres with a buddy. Progressing to PADI Advanced Open Water extends your depth limit to 30 metres and introduces more navigation, night diving, and other specialty skills.

Yes — with your PADI Open Water card you can join our day trips and liveaboards to the Similan Islands straight away. Many of the best spots are within the 18-metre Open Water limit. You will have an experienced guide throughout.

Each package price covers all pool and ocean sessions, five dives (four certification dives plus a bonus fun dive), full scuba equipment hire, PADI eLearning so you can study in advance, and your PADI certification fee. There are no hidden extras — you will receive your digital PADI certification card at the end of the course, once you have met all the course requirements.

Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) is a single introductory dive with an instructor — you try scuba but receive no certification. The Open Water Course is a full 3-day programme that certifies you as an independent recreational diver.

The dive season in Khao Lak runs from mid-October to mid-May when the Similan and Surin Islands National Parks are open and sea conditions are calm.
