The PADI Self Reliant Diver Course teaches you how to be safe when diving alone. But that’s not the main purpose of the course. What it really teaches you is to be safer.

  • Safer when diving recreationally with a buddy
  • More careful when preparing your equipment
  • Safer underwater.

Self-Reliant Equipment

It’s Challenging – but fun!

There is a bit more equipment that you need to take with you – you’ll need spares of the important stuff (like air!)

You’ll learn to be more aware of your gas consumption, depth, dive time and no-deco limits.
Swimming without a mask and changing from one tank to another will both become easy.

Self-Reliant doesn’t have to be Solo

The Self Reliant Diver Course is 3 dives, so if the preparation has all been done in advance, it can be completed in one day.
The course doesn’t have a manual, as it’s much more practical than theoretical, but there is a knowledge review at the end.
We teach you about:

  • planning
  • using checklists to reduce mistakes
  • awareness of your gas use
  • switching to your redundant air source
  • changing your mask underwater
  • swimming without a mask
  • navigation
  • responding calmly to situations

Who is this course for?

The simple answer is anyone who has 100+ dives and is comfortable in the water.

But realistically who might use these skills?

  • Divemasters or Dive Guides
  • People working away from their buddy (e.g. Coral Gardeners)
  • Photographers or Videographers
  • Instructors
  • Anyone who dives in low visibility or strong currents
  • Anyone diving with a less experienced buddy

If you come into any of these groups, then this course may be your next one.
