Deep Diving
There are lots of easily accessible sites for local diving close to Khao Lak and the pier at Thap Lamu.
Boonsung Wreck
Boonsung Wreck is a well known haven for juvenile fish of all varieties and is so full of life it is locally known as ‘Fish Soup’. An old tin-mining dredger which sank in the early 80’s a few kilometres from Pakarang Cape and now supports a natural fish nursery.
It’s a well established wreck, with lots of honeycomb moray eels, large schools of juvenile barracuda, porcupine fish hiding in plain sight, and batfish curiously coming to check you out.
T13 Museum
The Underwater museum has become established off the beach at Khao Lak. There are a variety of old trucks, statues, and artificial reefs that have been put together around the wreck of the T13 boat as part of a coral gardening effort.
We like having a look at the old Harley Davidson motorbike that’s been put down there, and there’s usually a large whip ray hiding under the trucks.
Seachart Wreck
Seachart is a large cargo ship that sank in 2010 while carrying a load of teak logs. It is lying at 40 metres, with the top of the wreck at 28m. It’s beautiful now, covered with masses of soft coral, and because it’s rarely visited it is pristine with huge numbers of fish. To dive this wreck you need to have Nitrox certification and preferably deep specialty. We can complete your deep specialty course with you if you would like to dive this wreck.
